Basic Stitches Beginner
Chain Stitch (ch)
The foundation for almost all crochet projects, used to start a new row or create space between stitches.
The chain stitch is the absolute foundation of crochet. It is used to create the starting foundation chain, to turn at the end of a row, and to create lace or spaces within a pattern.

How to do it
- Yarn Over: Wrap the yarn around the hook from back to front.
- Pull Through: Use the hook to pull this loop of yarn through the existing loop already on your hook.
- Repeat: Each time you do this, one chain stitch is created.
Key Tips
- Tension: Keep your foundation chain loose. If it’s too tight, your project will curve or “bow” at the bottom.
- Counting: Never count the loop on your hook as a stitch. Count the “V” shapes created by the chains.
