Basic Stitches Beginner
Increase (inc)
Adding stitches to a row or round to expand the fabric, usually by working two stitches into the same space.
Increasing is how you grow your crochet project. It is essential for creating circles, triangles, and any 3D shape—making it a core skill for amigurumi.
How to do it
An increase is simply working two stitches into the same stitch from the previous row.
- Complete one normal stitch (e.g., a single crochet).
- Insert your hook back into the same stitch you just worked.
- Complete a second stitch.
Pattern Notation
In most patterns, inc refers to a single crochet increase. If a different stitch is required, the pattern will specify (e.g., dc inc for a double crochet increase).
