Basic Stitches Beginner

Single Crochet 2 Together (sc2tog)

A common decrease stitch that joins two stitches into one, reducing the total stitch count.

The sc2tog is the most common way to decrease when working with single crochet. It allows you to shape your project by narrowing the fabric.

How to do it

  1. Insert Hook: Push your hook into the first stitch.
  2. Yarn Over & Pull Up: Wrap the yarn and pull a loop through (2 loops on hook).
  3. Insert Hook into Next: Push your hook into the next stitch.
  4. Yarn Over & Pull Up: Wrap the yarn and pull a loop through (3 loops on hook).
  5. Yarn Over & Pull Through All: Wrap the yarn once more and pull it through all three loops on your hook.

Pro Tip

For a cleaner look in amigurumi, consider using the Invisible Decrease instead of a standard sc2tog.
