Popcorn Stitch (pc)

A highly textured 3D stitch created by working several complete stitches into one space and joining them with a slip stitch.

The popcorn stitch is one of the “fattest” textured stitches in crochet. It pops out from the surface of the fabric, creating a distinct 3D bump.

How to do it

  1. Work Stitches: Work 5 complete double crochets into the same stitch.
  2. Drop Loop: Remove your hook from the current loop (don’t worry, it won’t unravel immediately).
  3. Insert Hook: Insert your hook into the top of the first double crochet you made in that group.
  4. Grab Loop: Put your hook back into the dropped loop.
  5. Pull Through: Pull the loop through the first stitch to “cinch” the 5 stitches into a bundle.

Difference from Clusters

While clusters join stitches at the top, a popcorn uses complete stitches that are pulled together, resulting in a much more prominent, rounded texture.
