Skip (sk)

Passing over a stitch or space from the previous row without working into it.

When a pattern says to sk, you simply ignore the next stitch and move your hook to the one after it.

Why Skip?

  • Shaping: Skipping can be used as a simple way to decrease.
  • Lace: Skipping stitches combined with chains creates holes, which is the basis for lace and mesh patterns.
  • Texture: Some textured stitches require you to skip a stitch to create room for a larger grouping of stitches in the next space.
