Single Crochet 3 Together (sc3tog)

An aggressive decrease stitch that joins three stitches into one, rapidly reducing the stitch count.

The sc3tog is used for sharp tapering or closing the tops of spheres and shapes. It reduces three stitches down to a single point.

How to do it

  1. Insert Hook into 1st St: Push your hook into the first stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook).
  2. Insert Hook into 2nd St: Push your hook into the next stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook).
  3. Insert Hook into 3rd St: Push your hook into the third stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook).
  4. Yarn Over & Pull Through All: Wrap the yarn and pull it through all four loops on your hook at once.

Usage

You’ll often see this at the very end of an amigurumi piece to cinch the final hole closed, or in geometric patterns to create sharp corners.
