Treble Crochet (tr)

A tall stitch that creates an open, airy fabric with a lot of drape. Also known as Triple Crochet.

The treble crochet is taller than the double crochet. Because of its height, it creates a very flexible fabric with large spaces between stitches, making it perfect for lightweight shawls and blankets.

How to do it

  1. Yarn Over Twice: Wrap the yarn around the hook two times before inserting it into the stitch.
  2. Insert Hook: Push the hook into the next stitch.
  3. Yarn Over & Pull Up: Wrap the yarn and pull a loop through (4 loops on hook).
  4. Yarn Over & Pull Through 2: Pull through the first two loops (3 loops remaining).
  5. Yarn Over & Pull Through 2: Pull through the next two loops (2 loops remaining).
  6. Yarn Over & Pull Through 2: Pull through the final two loops.

Usage

Treble crochets are often used in “post stitches” to create cables or in lacy patterns to provide maximum height with minimal yarn density.
